WORK ON YOUR RELATIONSHIP SKILLS. Listen. Give. Communicate. Understand. Appreciate. The more friends you have the better the work will be. As an account person, you must learn to build strong relationships with your clients, teams, vendors and agency management. Everyone wants something different and your ability to adapt to the individual needs simultaneously - is what seperates the leaders from the sheep. Keep them all happy and you will be a hero.

I've been very fortunate to have worked with both John Drake and Byron Oshiro. For me, the underlining principle for all of the points noted above is PASSION and they exuded it!
