Thought about podcasting recently? Perhaps not... There's been lots of other stuff on our minds. But in the April issue of Fast Company there was an article about Adam Carolla and his podcast and how successful it is. They talked about others too and how, according to eMarketer, US podcast listenership will reach 38 million by 2013, which is more than double 2008 levels when the medium was more hyped. Personally, I used to spend a lot of time with podcasts but recently the only one I listen to frequently is the NY Times' Front Page. But the article made me curious so I spent time digging around for a new and interesting podcast.
So, of course, there's the NPR Story of the Day and NPR Business Story of the day. Those are good. And the Onion Radio News which is, perhaps, necessary for sane living. But those are the name brands. I sampled lots of unknown stuff. Some good, some downright painful. But here's a gem: Freakonomics Radio. That's a great one... It's new as of February. The podcasts have great pacing (necessary, I found) and discuss stuff you probably wouldn't normally think about yet makes for interesting thinking. It's well-produced with engaging guest interaction. Keeps the listener around for awhile. Or, in other words, it's an experience I can't get by simply reading the content myself.
