In 1995 Pulp Fiction and The Shawshank Remption received a total of 14 Oscar nominations between them. Only one nomination turned into an Academy Award. Sounds a bit crazy, until you learn that 1995 was also the year of Forrest Gump.
Three years later Good Will Hunting and L.A. Confidential faced the same challenge. Sharing 18 nominations between them, they took home very few Oscars for that was the year of Titanic.
I thought about that after reading up on all the musicians who have never won a Grammy, a list that includes Led Zepplin, Queen and Jimi Hendrix.
Awards are awesome.
But sometimes great work doesn't win.
When the next round of marketing and creative awards come around I don't know if JC Penney will win anything for "Yours Truly." It sure would be nice if they did.
